Speeding Van Hits Pedestrian Youth in Hazira; CCTV Footage Emerges
February 24, 2026
Surat: A youth was injured after a speeding Eeco van rammed into him from behind in Mora village of the Hazira area on February 22. The incident, captured on a nearby CCTV camera, has gone viral and triggered public anger.
According to the footage, the youth was walking along the main panchayat road when a van approached at high speed and struck him from behind. The impact threw him into the air before he fell onto the road. In a narrow escape, his head landed dangerously close to the vehicle’s tyre but was not crushed. The driver fled the scene without stopping to assist the victim.
Residents alleged that privately operated vans frequently use the village’s internal panchayat road to ferry passengers while avoiding police checks on the highway. They claimed that drivers often speed through the densely populated area, posing a serious threat to pedestrians.
Notably, just two days before the accident, village leaders, including the sarpanch and gram panchayat members, had objected to such vehicles using the internal road and warned drivers against taking the route. Despite this, the practice reportedly continues.
Villagers have demanded strict action against the absconding driver based on the CCTV evidence and urged police to crack down on unauthorized passenger vehicles before a fatal accident occurs. DeshGujarat
