IMD Forecasts Unseasonal Rain in Parts of Gujarat Over Next 24 Hours

Surat: Following unseasonal rain in parts of the state on Monday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light rain and thundershowers in isolated districts of Gujarat over the next two days.

According to the IMD bulletin, light rain or thundershowers are very likely at isolated places in Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Narmada, Dang and Tapi districts of the Gujarat region, as well as in Bhavnagar and Amreli districts of Saurashtra, until 8:30 am on Thursday.

The remaining districts of Gujarat, along with the Union Territories of Diu, Daman, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli, are expected to experience dry weather during this period.

Thereafter, from February 26 to March 4, dry weather is very likely to prevail across all districts of Gujarat, including Saurashtra-Kutch, Diu, Daman, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli. No significant change in maximum or minimum temperatures is expected over the next seven days.

Synoptic Situation

The IMD outlined the following synoptic conditions influencing the weather:

  • An upper air cyclonic circulation over the northeast Arabian Sea adjoining Saurashtra and Kutch now lies over the northeast Arabian Sea off the Gujarat coast between 1.5 km and 3.1 km above mean sea level.
  • A trough extending from South Interior Karnataka to Marathwada now runs from northwest Tamil Nadu to Madhya Maharashtra across Interior Karnataka at 0.9 km above mean sea level.
  • An upper air cyclonic circulation persists over southwest Rajasthan and adjoining areas at 1.5 km above mean sea level.
  • Another upper air cyclonic circulation lies over southeast Rajasthan and adjoining areas at 0.9 km above mean sea level.
  • An upper air cyclonic circulation is also present over Madhya Maharashtra and adjoining areas at 0.9 km above mean sea level.

Ahmedabad is likely to witness a partly cloudy sky until 8:30 am on February 26. The maximum temperature is expected to be around 36°C, while the minimum temperature may hover near 22°C.

Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious during rain or thunderstorm activity. Strong winds may cause minor damage to vulnerable structures, plantations, and standing crops.
