February 28, 2026
Surat: A stone-pelting incident targeting the Mumbai-bound Vande Bharat Express near Bhestan railway station in Surat triggered swift action by railway authorities on Thursday evening. The incident occurred when a group of children allegedly threw stones at the train while playing, damaging the windowpane of one of the coaches.
The matter came to light after a passenger informed railway staff about the damaged window. The information was subsequently relayed at the next station, prompting the Surat Railway Protection Force (RPF) to initiate an inquiry.
During the probe near Bhestan station, RPF personnel found that a few daily-wage labourers were working in the vicinity while their children were playing nearby. According to officials, the children admitted during questioning that they had thrown stones at a passing goods train earlier for fun and later hurled stones at the Vande Bharat Express as well.
Police summoned the children along with their parents for questioning. During the inquiry, the children acknowledged their mistake. Further action is being taken in accordance with railway safety regulations. DeshGujarat
