ABVP Slams NSUI, Youth Congress After Ex-Office Bearer Held in Drunk Driving Case in Ahmedabad
March 02, 2026
Ahmedabad: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has condemned two recent incidents in the city allegedly involving office-bearers associated with the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) and Youth Congress.
This comes after an accident that occurred in the Maninagar area late last night, when Vishal Mahendrabhai Gurjar, a former city president of Youth Congress and nephew of former MLA Himmatsinh Patel, was allegedly found driving under the influence of alcohol. He was reportedly driving a car with black-tinted windows and an NSUI plate affixed to it, and is accused of colliding with two vehicles.
In a separate incident, reported in the Meghaninagar area of Ahmedabad on February 24, 2026, during the evening hours, NSUI Ahmedabad city vice-president Saurabh Chauhan alias “Dhappi” and three of his associates allegedly attacked a youth identified as Karan Prajapati with a knife, leading to his death.
ABVP termed the incidents “highly condemnable” and accused NSUI and Youth Congress leaders of hypocrisy, alleging that individuals who publicly advocate for a drug-free society are themselves involved in incidents linked to intoxication and violence.
The organisation further stated that student bodies must ensure consistency between their public campaigns and the conduct of their office-bearers. ABVP urged the NSUI leadership to take corrective measures and ensure that its members adhere to the principles they promote in society. DeshGujarat
