Milk Samples from 8 Dairies, One Ice Cream Sample Found Substandard in Surat
March 02, 2026
Surat: The Food Inspection Wing of the Health Department of the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) carried out intensive inspections of food establishments across the city last month. During the drive, officials collected samples of various food products and sent them for analysis to the civic body’s Public Health Laboratory. Of these, one sample of cashew-raisin ice cream was declared substandard.
In a parallel drive, officials also collected samples of loose, packaged, and “loose-from-pack” milk from units engaged in the production, storage, and sale of cow and buffalo milk, including dairies, milk booths, and vendors across Surat.
According to the Public Health Laboratory report, eight milk samples failed to meet the standards prescribed under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The samples were found deficient due to lower-than-permissible levels of milk fat and SNF (solids-not-fat).
The following establishments were found selling substandard products:
-
Siddhi Ice Cream, Parle Point – Cashew-raisin ice cream (milk fat below standard)
-
Shrinath Dudh Dairy, Katargam – Cow milk (milk fat and SNF below standard)
-
Shri Krishna Dairy, Bamroli – Cow milk (milk fat and SNF below standard)
-
A One Dairy, Un Area – Cow milk (milk fat and SNF below standard)
-
Maa Chamunda Dairy, Un – Cow milk (milk fat and SNF below standard)
-
Shri Bhagya Laxmi Dairy, Nanpura – Cow milk (milk fat and SNF below standard)
-

-
Local Cattle Shed, Udhna – Cow milk (milk fat and SNF below standard)
-

Civic authorities stated that further action will be initiated against the concerned establishments under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and relevant rules. DeshGujarat
