GST Registrations Rise Nationwide; Gujarat Adds 57,000+ Taxpayers Since October
March 04, 2026
Ahmedabad: Gujarat has recorded a significant rise in GST registrations over the past few months, reflecting growing business activity and improved compliance under the tax regime. According to GST portal data, the state added 57,018 new GST registrations between October 31, 2025, and February 28, 2026, taking the total number of taxpayers to 13,82,341 from 13,25,324.
The increase comes amid a broader nationwide surge in GST registrations, which have risen by more than 5 lakh since November. Overall GST registrations in India crossed 1.61 crore by February 28, 2026, compared with 1.56 crore as of October 31, 2025.
Experts attribute the growth to several policy and technological measures aimed at easing the registration process. A simplified GST registration framework introduced last year allows applicants to complete the process within three working days through SMS-based verification, with minimal documentation.
Another key factor driving registrations is the reduced registration threshold of ₹25 lakh for small and low-risk businesses introduced in November 2025. The move encouraged a large number of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to enter the formal tax system.
The adoption of e-invoicing and e-way bill integration has also streamlined administrative procedures and reduced compliance burdens for businesses, further encouraging registrations.
According to tax experts, the surge in registrations is also being supported by rising import activity and increasing participation of suppliers in the digital economy, particularly on e-commerce platforms, where vendors are required to be GST-registered.
While Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra continue to lead the country in total GST registrations, Gujarat remains among the key industrial states contributing substantially to the expanding GST taxpayer base. DeshGujarat
