Umreth BJP MLA Govindbhai Parmar passes away

Anand: Ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Govind Parmar passed away today. 1943-born, he was representing Umreth assembly seat from Central Gujarat. He was hospitalized in Anand for last tome time for medical treatment. He was senior MLA from Umreth who was elected to the State assembly in 1995, 1998, 2017 and 2022. He won as an independent candidate from Sarsa assembly seat in 1995 and also became minister. He again won from Sarsa as Congress candidate this time in 1998.He lost 2002 polls in Sarsa as Congress candidate. In 2007 he against lost assembly election in Sarsa as an independent candidate, this time against NCP. He lost 2012 polls again as BJP candidate. As Congress and NCP had formed alliance, and Parmar’s arch rival Jayant Bosky was allocated the seat under this alliance, Parmar joined BJP and won Umreth assembly seat in 2017 and 2022. Late Govind Raeejibhai Parmar was fondly known as Bapji among his followers. With his passing away, the assembly seat has gone vacant, by-polls for which shall take place within next six months. Apart from local polls, Rajya Sabha polls for four seats, Gujarat will also witness by-election for vacant seat of Umreth in coming months. DeshGujarat
