Gujarat Ranks First in PMAY Implementation; 9.15 Lakh Houses Completed: Govt

Gandhinagar: Gujarat ranks first in the country in providing housing under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), Urban Development and Urban Housing Minister Kanubhai Desai said in the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday.
Replying to a question raised by an MLA, the minister said that the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana is being implemented to realise the vision of providing a house to every homeless citizen across the country, including Gujarat. The state has achieved the top position in the country in the implementation of the scheme.
He informed the House that out of a total of 9.57 lakh houses approved under the scheme in Gujarat, construction of 9.15 lakh houses has been completed so far, benefiting a large number of homeless families in the state.
Providing further details, the minister said that earlier financial assistance of Rs 3.50 lakh was provided under the scheme, which was increased by Rs 50,000 in 2024. At present, beneficiaries are receiving assistance of Rs 4 lakh per house.
He further stated that under the “Urban Development Year-2025” initiative, an amount of about Rs 7,789 crore has been allocated for the construction of 78,000 new houses under the scheme. DeshGujarat
