Ahmedabad – Gandhinagar Metro Frequency to Increase with 10 More Trainsets
March 11, 2026
Gandhinagar: The Gujarat Government has ordered metro trainsets to strengthen urban transport infrastructure, including 10 additional trainsets for Ahmedabad Metro Phase-II, an official press statement said today. However, it has not been clarified when these trainsets will arrive in Gujarat and become operational.
It is noteworthy that in 2023, Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd had won a ₹350 crore contract to supply 10 metro trainsets for Ahmedabad Metro. The first of these 10 trains was launched by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel in December 2025 from Kolkata, while there has been no clarity from the government on the timeline for the delivery of the remaining nine trainsets.
The state had placed an order for a total of 34 metro trainsets in 2023, which are being manufactured at a facility in Titagarh, Kolkata.
Under Ahmedabad Metro Phase-II, a 68.2-km metro network connecting Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar is operational, with 32 trainsets currently in service. The addition of 10 new trainsets is expected to increase train frequency, reduce passenger waiting time, and improve overall travel convenience.
As per the release, the metro rail network in Gujarat currently spans 108 km and is expected to expand to 190 km in the coming years. The expansion also includes a 6.04-km pre-planned airport line, which will further strengthen connectivity. In addition, proposals to introduce metro rail services in other major cities such as Rajkot and Vadodara are under consideration to ensure that the benefits of modern, efficient, and environment-friendly transport reach more citizens across the state.
The new metro systems in Gujarat will be equipped with advanced driverless technology designed to ensure punctuality, safety, and energy efficiency. These trainsets will feature real-time monitoring, automated braking systems, optimised speed profiles, and intelligent fault diagnostics to ensure reliable performance.
Passenger-centric safety features such as CCTV surveillance, fire detection systems, fail-safe door operations, and obstacle-detection technology will provide a safe and smooth travel experience. Officials said these innovations will establish Gujarat’s metro network as a model of modern, smart, and sustainable urban transport. DeshGujarat
