LPG Crunch Hits Dahod Railway Workshop Canteen; Cooking Moves to Wood-Fired Stoves

Vadodara: An LPG cylinder shortage disrupted operations at the canteen of the Railway Rolling Stock Workshop in Dahod, forcing the facility to suspend meal services for several days. A notice displayed at the canteen stated that operations had been halted due to the non-availability of gas cylinders.

The crisis reportedly continued for nearly four days, during which the canteen remained closed. On Monday, the canteen reopened to serve workers, but in the absence of LPG, cooking had to be done on traditional wood-fired stoves, an unusual situation at a major railway establishment.

The Dahod workshop, set up during the British era in 1931, is one of the important railway production units in the country. After remaining underutilised for years, it was later upgraded for electric locomotive manufacturing, and the first 9,000-HP locomotive of Indian Railways rolled out from the unit last year.

The canteen usually provides subsidised meals to around 150 workers daily. With LPG supply disrupted, employees were forced to arrange meals outside at higher cost. DeshGujarat
