Traffic Diversion Announced as Hatkeshwar Bridge Demolition Enters Final Stage

Ahmedabad: The demolition of the Hatkeshwar Bridge in the eastern part of the city has been underway for the past six months and has now entered the final stage. After local traders objected to the slow pace of demolition work on two spans located on the main road, the authorities have announced traffic diversion for the removal of the last two remaining spans of the bridge.

The diversion will remain in force till April 4, 2026, or until the demolition work is completed. During this period, alternative routes must be used for travel between Guruji Bridge and Amraiwadi, and from Amraiwadi towards Guruji Bridge, both during the day and night.

Officials said the diversion has been put in place to ensure smooth demolition work and to prevent inconvenience or accidents for motorists, as the area experiences heavy traffic. The bridge has already been demolished from both ends up to the middle portion, and the remaining spans are being removed carefully to avoid damage to nearby structures.

As per the revised traffic arrangement, vehicles coming from Guruji Bridge in Maninagar will have to pass under the span near K.C. Tea Stall, located beside one of the obligatory (main) spans of the Hatkeshwar Bridge, and proceed towards Amraiwadi Swastik Crossroads.

Similarly, traffic coming from Amraiwadi Swastik Crossroads will have to pass through the open space created after demolition near the side of the obligatory (main) span of the bridge and proceed towards Guruji Bridge.

Officials said the remaining spans will be demolished in phases. After the demolition of one span, the cleared space will be used as a temporary diversion route while work continues on the span near the traffic police post.

Due to the diversion and ongoing demolition work, congestion is likely near Hatkeshwar crossroads, and traffic police personnel will remain deployed at the spot round the clock to regulate vehicle movement. DeshGujarat
