March 21, 2026
Surat: The impact of ongoing conflicts in the Middle East is now being felt at the local level, with disruptions in gas supply leading to a shortage of commercial gas cylinders in Surat city. As per the Central government guidelines, the District Supply Department has implemented a strict approval system to ensure controlled and prioritized distribution.
Under the new system, commercial gas cylinders are no longer available without prior approval from the department. Essential services and key institutions are being prioritized to minimize disruption to daily life.
On Saturday, the administration approved a total of 100 applications for commercial gas cylinders across various sectors.
Among the approved applicants:
- 15 schools and colleges, along with one old age home and one shelter home, have been granted permission to ensure continuity of education and social services.
- Four dairy industries have received approvals to maintain uninterrupted supply of milk and related products.
- In the food services sector, 51 restaurants have been allotted cylinders.
- Additionally, 10 industrial canteens and 9 corporate canteens have been approved to sustain food services for workers and employees.
- Nine religious trusts have also been granted permission, keeping in mind ongoing religious and community services.
The administration emphasized that the approval-based distribution system aims to ensure fair allocation of limited resources while safeguarding essential public services during the ongoing supply constraints.
