Land Acquisition Process Begins for Kanalus – Okha Railway Line Doubling

Jamnagar: The Central Government has issued a notification for land acquisition in five villages of Lalpur taluka in Jamnagar district for the doubling of the existing Broad Gauge railway line between Kanalus and Okha (Devbhumi Dwarka).

The land acquisition will affect five villages in Lalpur taluka. As per official details, the land to be acquired (with or without structures) includes:

  • About 7,968 sq. m in Kanalus village
  • About 4,937 sq. m in Padana village
  • About 14,902 sq. m in Rangpar village
  • About 681 sq. m in Sevak Bharudiya village
  • About 29,411 sq. m (largest share) in Modpar village

The land is being acquired for public purpose under the provisions of the Railways Act, 1989, according to a notification issued by the Ministry of Railways through the Western Railway Construction Organisation.

Under Section 20D of the Railways Act, any person having an interest in the land can file objections within 30 days from the Gazette publication dated March 18, 2026. Objections must be submitted in writing to the Prant Officer, Lalpur, Jamnagar, stating proper reasons. The authority will hear the objections before taking a final decision.

Okha–Kanalus Railway Line Doubling Project

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had approved the 141-km Kanalus–Okha railway line doubling project in November 2025. The project, estimated to cost around ₹1,457 crore, will improve rail connectivity to Dwarka, a major pilgrimage centre, and support the development of the Saurashtra region.

At present, the Ahmedabad–Rajkot route is already a double line, while doubling work on the Rajkot–Kanalus section is in progress. After the Kanalus–Okha doubling is completed, the entire Ahmedabad–Okha railway route will have higher capacity, making passenger and goods transport easier till the western edge of Saurashtra,
