Two more Indian LPG tankers prepare to cross Strait of Hormuz: Report
March 21, 2026
New Delhi: Two Indian-flagged liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tankers are likely to pass through the Strait of Hormuz in the coming days after a brief halt in voyages, while no crude oil tanker has crossed the strategic waterway in the last 24 hours, according to a Reuters report citing shipping data and industry sources.
The report said the two Indian-flagged LPG carriers are currently anchored in the Gulf and preparing to resume their voyage. The vessels, identified as Pine Gas and Jag Vasant, both flying the Indian flag, are anchored near Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates and have signalled readiness to sail. They could begin their voyage as early as Saturday.
It is learnt that Jag Vasant has been chartered by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL), while Pine Gas is chartered by Indian Oil Corporation (IOC).
Meanwhile, Rajesh Kumar Sinha, Special Secretary in India’s Shipping Ministry, told the news agency that immediate details about the movement of the vessels were not available when asked about their status.
Notably, earlier this week, two LPG-carrying ships Shivalik and Nanda Devi crossed the strait and arrived at ports in Gujarat amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia that began on February 28 after Israel and the United States launched airstrikes on Iran, followed by retaliation from Tehran.
The movement of vessels in the region has slowed after Iran warned of possible attacks on ships leaving the Gulf through the Strait of Hormuz, a key route that carries nearly 20% of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas supplies. As a result, hundreds of ships have remained anchored in Gulf waters. DeshGujarat
