Gandhinagar: GIFT City in Gandhinagar is expected to get a foot-over pedestrian bridge similar to the Atal Bridge over the Sabarmati River in Ahmedabad. In this direction, Gujarat International Finance Tec-City Company Limited (GIFTCL) has invited bids for the appointment of a principal consultant to provide architectural and structural design services for a proposed pedestrian bridge across the Sabarmati River near GIFT City.

The proposed bridge will be developed as part of the Sabarmati Riverfront expansion project connecting Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, and GIFT City. The pedestrian bridge is expected to be about 470 metres long and will connect the eastern and western banks of the Sabarmati River near GIFT City. It is planned as a landmark structure that will also become a part of the city skyline.

According to the tender document, the selected consultant will prepare the complete architectural and structural design of the bridge. The scope of work includes concept design, structural analysis, foundation design, detailed drawings, and construction support.

The consultant will prepare multiple design options, finalize the bridge type, study soil conditions, and design the foundation, piers, deck, and other structural components. Load calculations for wind, earthquake forces, pedestrian movement, and temperature variations will be carried out as per national standards.

Detailed engineering drawings required for construction, including reinforcement drawings, fabrication drawings, and layout plans, will also be prepared. The consultant will additionally prepare tender documents, cost estimates, and technical specifications for the construction work.

During the construction phase, the consultant will conduct site visits, verify drawings, inspect the work, and certify the structural stability of the bridge after completion.

Time period of the consultant’s work

The design work is expected to be completed within 20 to 22 weeks from the date of appointment. Construction support services will continue separately during the execution of the bridge project.
