Surat: The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) conducted a segregation and cleanliness campaign at Dumas Sea Face on Sunday to spread awareness about sanitation among the large number of citizens who gathered at the beach during the weekend holiday. The special drive was carried out by the Health Department on the instructions of the Municipal Commissioner.
As part of the campaign, around 20 supervisors along with teams from six NGOs set up awareness stalls near Dumas Sea Face and the Daria Ganesh Temple area. Through street plays, loudspeaker announcements, and direct interaction, citizens were educated about the importance of segregating dry and wet waste and disposing of garbage only at designated places. The campaign also stressed the need to keep public places clean, avoid spitting, and not deface walls.
During the drive, municipal workers collected nearly 400 kg of garbage from Dumas Sea Face and nearby beach areas. Along with public awareness activities, the civic body also took strict action against violators. A total fine of Rs 4,900 was collected from 26 people for littering in public places.
Officials said the awareness campaign was organised to maintain the cleanliness and beauty of Dumas Sea Face, which was opened to the public only two weeks ago, and to instill a sense of responsibility among citizens to keep the area clean. DeshGujarat
