Unseasonal Rain Likely to Lash Gujarat in Multiple Phases This Week: IMD Forecast

Ahmedabad: Unseasonal rain and thundershowers are set to impact parts of Gujarat this week, as evolving western disturbances and cyclonic circulations influence weather patterns across the region, according to the latest meteorological forecast.

A persistent western disturbance over North Iran and the adjoining Caspian Sea, coupled with an upper air cyclonic circulation over northwest Rajasthan, is driving the current instability. Additionally, a fresh western disturbance is expected to affect northwest India from April 2, potentially extending weather activity into parts of Gujarat.

As per the IMD, today, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms is likely at isolated places in North Gujarat districts, including Banaskantha, Patan, Sabarkantha, Mehsana, Dahod, Aravalli, and Mahisagar. Similar conditions are expected in parts of Kutch. The rest of the state is likely to remain largely dry.

After that, the rains may pause for three days between March 31 and April 2, when dry weather is likely across Gujarat, Saurashtra-Kutch, and Union Territories including Diu, Daman, and Dadra & Nagar Haveli.

Rain to Return from April 2

With the arrival of a fresh western disturbance, rainfall activity is expected to resume on April 2 and 3.

On April 2, light to moderate rain and thundershowers are likely in some Gujarat districts, namely Banaskantha, Patan, Sabarkantha, Mehsana, Narmada, Tapi, Navsari, Dang, Valsad, and Kutch.

While on April 3, only Banaskantha, Patan, Sabarkantha, Mehsana, and Kutch are likely to receive rainfall.

Temperature Trends

Maximum temperatures across the state are likely to witness a gradual dip of 2–3°C over the next four days due to cloud cover and rainfall activity. However, minimum temperatures are expected to remain largely unchanged over the next week.

Weather Warnings Issued

Authorities have issued warnings for light thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (30–40 kmph) in affected districts on March 30, March 31, and again on April 2. No significant warnings have been issued for the intervening dry days.

Outlook

The shifting weather conditions may bring temporary relief from the heat but could impact standing crops and outdoor activities in affected districts. DeshGujarat
