Live: PM Modi inaugurates the Kaynes Semicon Plant at Sanand

Ahmedabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is inaugurating the Kaynes Semicon plant at Sanand GIDC in Ahmedabad, marking the commencement of commercial production at the facility and a key milestone in India’s semiconductor journey.

Production is beginning with advanced Intelligent Power Modules (IPMs), essential components used in automotive and industrial applications that require compact, efficient, and reliable power switching systems. Each module consists of 17 chips and is being supplied to California-based Alpha and Omega Semiconductor (AOS). Once all phases of the project are completed, the plant is expected to achieve a production capacity of 6.33 million units per day.

The inauguration is a significant step under the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM). The Kaynes facility is becoming the second semiconductor unit, after Micron Technology, among approved projects under the programme to enter the commercial production stage.

The development is particularly important as it establishes India’s second OSAT/ATMP (Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test / Assembly, Testing, Marking, and Packaging) facility to begin operations. It also marks the entry of an Indian-origin Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) company into semiconductor manufacturing, strengthening the country’s domestic capabilities.

The plant is set to boost indigenous semiconductor packaging capacity, helping bridge a critical gap in India’s chip ecosystem and advancing the country’s push towards self-reliance in high-technology manufacturing. DeshGujarat
