March 31, 2026
Rajkot: Two siblings from a Nepalese family drowned in a swimming pool at a residential complex in the Raiyadhar area on Monday, just a day before they were to leave for Nepal.
The incident occurred around 3 pm at Sopan Heights. The victims, Dipesh (7) and Deepshikha (5), reportedly entered the pool area after finding the gate open. Police said the girl accidentally slipped into the adult pool, and her brother drowned while trying to rescue her.
Their father, Karan Bhandari, who works as housekeeping staff at the society, had arrived in Rajkot a fortnight ago.
Both children were rushed to the civil hospital but were declared dead on arrival. Police officials said Bhandari had planned to send his children back to Nepal on March 31, but the tragedy occurred a day before their departure.
Police have registered a case of accidental death under Section 194 of the BNSS and initiated an investigation. DeshGujarat
