RTE Admissions 2026-27 Begin Today in Gujarat, Over 84,000 Seats Available
April 04, 2026
Ahmedabad: Online registration for admissions under the Right to Education (RTE) Act for the 2026–27 academic session commenced on Saturday and will remain open until April 17, offering Class 1 admission opportunities to students from economically weaker and middle-class families.
Over 84,000 seats will be available in private schools across Gujarat this year, compared to around 94,000 seats last year. As per RTE provisions, 25% of seats in private schools are reserved for children from disadvantaged sections, based on the previous year’s total admissions. Officials from the Directorate of Primary Education said parents were given adequate time to gather the necessary documents to ensure a smooth application process.
Among the total seats, more than 41,000 are in Gujarati medium schools, 40,262 in English medium, 2,235 in Hindi medium, and 320 in other mediums. A key change this year allows parents to select the school shift, morning or afternoon, along with the school, an option not available earlier.
The admission process also sees a revision in priority criteria. Unlike previous years, where children from anganwadi centres were given preference over reserved-category applicants, priority will now be given to children from reserved categories. DeshGujarat
