Unseasonal Rain Spell May Return to Gujarat from April 19: IMD Forecast
April 14, 2026
Ahmedabad: As Gujarat continues to reel under rising temperatures and dry weather conditions, the latest weather bulletin from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast unseasonal rain and thundershowers in parts of the state from April 19 onwards.
Rain Forecast and Affected Areas
From April 19 to April 20, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are very likely at isolated places, particularly in Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Dahod, Mahisagar, Panchmahal, Amreli, and Bhavnagar. The rest of the state is expected to continue experiencing predominantly dry conditions during this period.
Synoptic System Behind Weather Change
The weather shift is attributed to a persistent upper air cyclonic circulation over southeast Pakistan and adjoining Rajasthan, extending up to 1.5 km above mean sea level. This system is expected to influence moisture incursion and trigger localized instability, leading to pre-monsoon-like rainfall activity.
Heatwave-Like Conditions Continue
Before the rain sets in, hot and humid conditions are likely to dominate, especially in coastal areas of Gujarat and the Saurashtra-Kutch region from April 14 to April 18. Discomfort levels are expected to remain high due to humidity.
Maximum temperatures are expected to remain above 40°C in isolated pockets over the next five days.
In the past 24 hours, Rajkot recorded the highest temperature at 42.4°C, significantly above normal.
For Ahmedabad and surrounding areas, clear skies are expected until the morning of April 15, with maximum temperatures likely to hover around 40°C. DeshGujarat
