142 Ceramic Units Operational in Morbi: Gujarat Gas
April 15, 2026
Morbi: Around 142 ceramic units in Morbi are currently operational amid the ongoing global energy crisis, Gujarat Gas Limited said in an official press release.
GGL, the authorised supplier of piped natural gas (PNG) in the region, has intensified support to the ceramic industry, which was severely impacted by disruptions in global LNG supply triggered by geopolitical tensions, including the US-Iran conflict.
According to the release, prior to the crisis in February 2026, around 377 ceramic units were using PNG supplied by GGL, while nearly 415 units depended on propane sourced from oil marketing companies such as Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited. Together, these units consumed approximately 5.6 MMSCMD (million metric standard cubic metres per day) of fuel, with propane accounting for nearly 70% of the total demand.
However, supply disruptions and rising fuel costs forced several units to voluntarily suspend operations from mid-March.
In response, GGL stepped up engagement with manufacturers to shift reliance from propane to natural gas and ensured continued supply in line with Government of India guidelines, maintaining distribution at 80% of the average consumption recorded over the past six months.
Despite international LNG prices ruling high at $18–20 per MMBtu (metric million British thermal unit), GGL sourced additional gas from non-Middle East markets to meet demand and support the gradual revival of operations.
The company said it remains in constant coordination with industry stakeholders to address supply and pricing concerns. “GGL stands firmly with Morbi’s ceramic industry during this challenging period. Through mutual trust and collaboration, we aim to help the sector regain momentum,” the release stated. DeshGujarat
