Centre Notifies 66-Hectare SEZ for Tata Semiconductor in Dholera

Dholera: The Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry has officially notified the establishment of a new Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Gujarat, spearheaded by Tata Semiconductor Manufacturing Private Limited. The zone is dedicated to the development of electronic hardware and software, including Information Technology (IT) and IT-enabled services (ITES).

Strategic Location and Scale

The SEZ will cover a total area of 66.166 hectares, located at Plot Numbers 255 and 238 (Part-2) within the Dholera Special Investment Region. This site, situated in Dholera village, is part of the Industrial Zone in Town Planning Scheme 2A.

Key Approvals and Legal Status

The Central Government issued a letter of approval for the development, operation, and maintenance of the site on March 17, 2026. Following this, under the powers conferred by the Special Economic Zones Act, 2005, the government formally notified the area on April 9, 2026. Furthermore, as of the notification date, the SEZ is officially deemed an Inland Container Depot under the Customs Act, 1962, which will streamline logistics and trade for the facility. This allows the facility to handle international cargo directly on-site, reducing the need to rely on external ports.

Governance and Oversight

To manage the operations of the new zone, the Central Government has constituted an Approval Committee. This 8-member committee will be chaired by the Development Commissioner of the SEZ and includes representatives from:

  • The Ministry of Commerce and Industry
  • The Zonal Joint Director General of Foreign Trade
  • Commissioners of Customs/Central Excise and Income Tax
  • The Ministry of Finance (Banking Division)
  • The State Government of Gujarat

A representative of the developer, Tata Semiconductor, will also serve as a special invitee to the committee. This project marks a significant step in expanding India’s semiconductor and IT manufacturing infrastructure within the high-profile Dholera investment region. DeshGujarat
