Nadiad: In an anti-corruption operation, the Gujarat Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Saturday caught two Central GST officials red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe at the GST Bhavan in Nadiad.
The accused have been identified as Subodh Subhash Chauhan, a GST Inspector (Class-2), and Amarnath Govardhanram Saroj, Superintendent, Central GST (Class-2), both posted at the Central GST office in Nadiad.
According to officials, the case came to light after an alert citizen, engaged in the transportation business, approached the ACB via its toll-free helpline 1064. The complainant alleged that his goods-laden vehicle had been detained by GST authorities over document-related discrepancies. In exchange for releasing the vehicle, the accused officials allegedly demanded a bribe of ₹55 lakh.

Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant contacted the ACB, which then laid a trap. As per the plan, an initial installment of ₹10 lakh was arranged. During the operation on April 18, 2026, the accused allegedly engaged in a deliberate conversation regarding the bribe and accepted the money, following which ACB officials apprehended both on the spot.
The ACB team recovered the entire ₹10 lakh amount from the accused during the trap.
The operation was led by trapping officer D.A. Chaudhary of the Gandhinagar ACB Police Station, under the supervision of Assistant Director A.K. Parmar and overall charge of Deputy Director Bharti Pandya at ACB Headquarters in Ahmedabad.
A case of criminal misconduct under relevant anti-corruption laws has been registered, and further investigation is underway. Authorities reiterated their appeal to citizens to report corruption through the ACB helpline and assist in maintaining transparency in public administration. DeshGujarat
