Two Illegal Bangladeshi Migrant Women Held in Rajkot
April 18, 2026
Rajkot: Acting on specific intelligence input, the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Rajkot Police has apprehended two Bangladeshi women allegedly residing illegally in the city.
Officials said the action follows strict directives from the state Home Department, under which a sustained drive has been underway for the past 10 months to identify and detain foreign nationals living without valid documents. Earlier in mid-February, four Bangladeshi women were arrested as part of the same drive.
It is learnt that a citizen informed authorities via a dedicated helpline about two suspicious women residing near Raiya Chowkdi. Acting on the tip-off, the SOG team initiated surveillance and conducted a detailed inquiry over the past week.
The two women were detained and asked to produce valid documents to establish their Indian citizenship. However, they failed to provide any proof. Subsequently, they were subjected to joint interrogation by local police along with central agencies.
During questioning, the women allegedly admitted that they had entered India illegally around eight years ago. They reportedly stayed in Surat for nearly six to seven years before shifting to Rajkot, where they had been residing in the Raiya Chowkdi area for the past one-and-a-half years.
Police officials said both accused are currently in custody, and legal procedures are underway for their deportation. DeshGujarat
