April 20, 2026
Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad division of Western Railway on Sunday dispatched its first cargo train carrying dairy products to Jammu and Kashmir, marking a significant development in freight connectivity between Gujarat and the Valley.
The shipment, prepared for Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd (Amul), was loaded at Linch Railway Station. The train comprised 20 wagons divided into two segments. Ten wagons were routed to Bari Brahmana, while the remaining were sent to Anantnag under the Jammu Tawi division of Northern Railway.
Officials said the initiative is part of a broader push to move perishable goods such as dairy products over long distances via rail. The consignment generated freight revenue of ₹24.62 lakh.
They added that transporting dairy products by rail could ensure a more consistent supply to far-off regions like Kashmir while also easing reliance on road-based logistics. DeshGujarat
