Ahmedabad Police Make Nirnaynagar Overbridge One-Way to Tackle Congestion
April 21, 2026
Ahmedabad: In a move to ease worsening traffic congestion, city police have designated a crucial 140-metre stretch on the overbridge above the Nirnaynagar underpass as a one-way route, following consultations with the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC).
The overbridge, which connects Chandlodia, Umiya Hall and Nirnaynagar to the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex, had become a daily bottleneck due to its narrow width and heavy two-way traffic.
As per the new arrangement, vehicles will be permitted to move only from Chandlodia, Umiya Hall and Nirnaynagar towards the sports complex. Commuters travelling in the opposite direction will be required to take a U-turn at the Umiya Hall three-road junction.
The order, issued under Section 33 of the Gujarat Police Act, 1951, came into effect from midnight on April 21. Violators will face action under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 131 of the Gujarat Police Act. Police have been authorised to strictly enforce the new traffic regulation. DeshGujarat
