Lilavati Hospital Begins Operations in GIFT City
April 21, 2026
Ahmedabad: Lilavati Hospital on Monday began operations at its new facility in GIFT City, marking its first expansion beyond Mumbai. The project involves an investment of over ₹700 crore and will culminate in a 375-bed multi-specialty hospital.
Prashant Mehta, permanent trustee of the Lilavati Kirtilal Mehta Medical Trust, said the initial phase has commenced with outpatient department (OPD) services and free medical camps. “From today, we have started seeing patients from across the State free of cost. For the first 30 days, no charges will be levied on any patient, irrespective of background,” he stated.
The hospital is being developed in three phases, with around 120 beds expected to become operational in the first phase over the next four months. Mehta noted that this is the trust’s first hospital outside Mumbai and that the full 375-bed capacity will be realised in stages.
At present, OPD services are functional with five consultation rooms and a nursing unit, even as construction work continues. Ravindra Karanjekar, Medical Advisor for Lilavati Hospital Gujarat, said the first phase will initially open up to six floors, subject to receiving a partial occupancy certificate from GIFT City authorities.
Following the partial OC, the facility will operationalise five operation theatres along with day-care and dialysis units. The first phase will also introduce robotic surgery capabilities across cardiology, neurology, orthopaedics, and other specialties.
The hospital is expected to be fully operational by March 2027. Additionally, the trust is exploring the introduction of air ambulance services to support organ transplant logistics and cater to high-end medical cases. DeshGujarat
