Una AAP Candidate Arrested for ‘Fake Attack’, Police Find No Evidence of Firing

Una: Police have arrested AAP candidate for local polls in Una in Gujarat, Ajay Bambhaniya for faking an “attack” on him. It was initially reported that Bambhaniya was found injured and hospitalised, with visible bloodstains on his shirt.

The facts emerged after investigation are: Bambhaniya drove himself to the police station on 23rd April late in the evening, walked in very normally as seen in CCTV footage , and then before the police he suddenly collapsed, following which police shifted him to hospital where he was given oxygen. But he was not keeping the mask continuously. He had alleged that unidentified persons opened fire at him on the Somnath–Bhavnagar highway on the night of April 23, and a local MLA was blamed.

However, police investigation has found no evidence of any firing. As per findings based on FSL, ballistic, medical reports, and CCTV footage, the incident was allegedly fabricated. CCTV footage showed a live bullet falling from his pocket when he got down from the car. Investigators said the hole in the car’s front glass was not caused by a gunshot, as no gunpowder residue was found, and it appeared to have been made using a sharp tool. No bullet was recovered from inside the vehicle. No trace of fired bullet anywhere.

Police also noted that Bambhaniya initially refused to hand over his clothes for forensic examination, and medical reports indicated that the injury mark was not consistent with a gunshot wound. Bambhaniya is booked under Arms Act, and sections 212, 217, 214. He was booked earlier in 2007 and 2018 by Una police for attempt of murder, assault and loot etc offences.
