Gujarat Swelters Under Severe Heat as Mercury Crosses 44°C

Ahmedabad: Gujarat continues to reel under intense heat, with maximum temperatures remaining significantly above normal across most parts of the state, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) weather report issued this morning.

Surendranagar emerged as the hottest location, recording a scorching 44.4°C, followed closely by Ahmedabad at 43.8°C, which is 3.6°C above normal. Other major cities also reported elevated temperatures, including Amreli (43.7°C), Rajkot (43.3°C), Bhuj (43.3°C), and Gandhinagar (43.2°C), all registering departures of around 3–4°C above seasonal averages.

In central and south Gujarat, Vadodara recorded 42.5°C, while Surat saw 41.2°C, marking a sharp 4.3°C departure from normal, one of the highest deviations in the state. Bhavnagar (41.7°C) and Dang (41.1°C) also remained under severe heat conditions.

Relatively lower temperatures were observed in coastal regions due to maritime influence, with Veraval at 33.9°C, Porbandar at 35.0°C, Diu at 35.6°C, and Dwarka at 32.0°C.

Humidity levels varied across the state, with morning relative humidity reaching up to 89% in Veraval and remaining moderate in interior regions such as Ahmedabad (59%) and Rajkot (66%). No rainfall was reported from any station in the past 24 hours.

The IMD data indicates a widespread heatwave-like situation across Gujarat, with several districts witnessing temperatures well above normal. The prevailing conditions are likely to persist, keeping daytime temperatures at elevated levels across the state. DeshGujarat
