Ahmedabad: A fire broke out on Monday in a commercial complex near the busy Shyamal Crossroads in the western part of the city, gutting several parked vehicles and triggering panic among occupants. No casualties have been reported so far, officials said.

The incident occurred at the Shangri-La Arcade complex, where the blaze reportedly started near Kotak Mahindra Bank on the ground floor and spread rapidly to the upper floors, which house a gym and other establishments.

As vehicles were parked nearby, the fire spread to them and intensified quickly, sending thick plumes of black smoke billowing into the sky, visible from a distance. People inside the complex rushed out in fear as the situation escalated.

Fire brigade teams from Ahmedabad rushed to the spot upon receiving the alert and launched firefighting operations. According to a fire officer, 20–25 people were rescued from the building. After sustained efforts, firefighters brought the blaze under control. As a precautionary measure and to facilitate emergency response, police temporarily closed one side of the road leading from Shyamal Crossroads towards Prahlad Nagar.

Several two-wheelers and possibly a few four-wheelers were damaged in the incident. While the exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, preliminary suspicion points to a short circuit.
