Gujarat Police to Set Up Tourist Police Stations in Gir Somnath, Devbhumi Dwarka and Dang

Gandhinagar: State Police Chief Dr K.L.N. Rao chaired a high-level meeting to enhance the safety, convenience, and overall experience of tourists visiting key destinations across Gujarat, an official statement said. The meeting focused on operationalising dedicated ‘Tourist Police Stations’ in key tourism districts, in line with recommendations made at the DG & IG Conference.

In the first phase, these special Tourist Police Stations will be set up in districts such as Gir Somnath, Devbhumi Dwarka, and Dang to ensure a safe and tourist-friendly environment.

Existing police outposts at tourist locations will be upgraded into modern Tourist Police Stations through optimal utilisation of available resources, a press note said.

To improve visibility and accessibility, discussions were also held on introducing special uniforms for Tourist Police personnel and a distinctive logo for their vehicles.

At major tourist destinations, help desks and kiosks will be established using container-based structures to provide prompt assistance to visitors.

The meeting was attended by the IGP (Administration) and Superintendents of Police of the identified districts. To provide tourists with information and security-related services on a single platform, all SPs have been directed to develop a central ‘Interactive Tourist Police Application’.

The meeting also emphasised the need to ensure adequate manpower at each Tourist Police Station, along with the procurement of new vehicles and essential infrastructure.

Dr Rao said the initiative aims not only to strengthen law and order but also to create a safe and tourist-friendly environment for visitors from across India and abroad travelling to Gujarat. DeshGujarat
