Students Injured in School Van Accident in Rajkot

Rajkot: Five students were injured after a school van overturned following a collision with a city bus near Moti Tanki Chowk in Rajkot on Wednesday morning.

The accident occurred around 7:41 am in the busy western part of the city when the van, carrying schoolchildren, collided with an oncoming city bus while taking a turn at high speed. The impact caused the van to overturn on the road.

Around five students sustained minor to moderate injuries and were rescued by local residents before being shifted to a hospital for treatment.

According to initial information, the school van was heading towards Kotak School from Eagle Chowk and was taking a right turn near Moti Tanki Chowk. At the same time, the city bus was approaching from Limda Chowk towards Moti Tanki. CCTV footage of the incident shows the van driver taking a sudden turn at high speed, leading to a collision with the bus before the driver could react.

Eyewitnesses claim that the van driver’s rash driving was a key factor in the accident. The footage suggests that the van driver failed to slow down while turning, raising concerns over negligence. Authorities said that if the bus driver had not applied the brakes in time, the accident could have resulted in greater casualties.

Locals also alleged that the bus driver fled the scene after the collision. The incident has once again raised concerns over the use of improperly authorised vehicles as school vans and reckless driving in congested areas. Residents have called for strict action against those violating transport rules, while urging parents to remain vigilant about the safety and conduct of drivers transporting their children.

Police are expected to initiate further investigation based on CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts. DeshGujarat
