April 29, 2026
Surat: The civic body has found six samples of ghee and ice cream to be unsafe or substandard during inspections conducted across the city, a press release said.
As part of the drive, samples were collected from ghee and ice cream-selling establishments in the SMC area and analysed by the Food Analyst at the Public Health Laboratory.
According to officials, all six samples failed to meet standards prescribed under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and related rules.
At New Adinath Dairy Product Godown in Kosad, four ghee samples were found non-compliant. “Shree Mauli Gold Ghee Premium Cow Ghee,” “Motiraj Premium Desi Ghee,” and “Motiraj Premium Cow Ghee” were declared unsafe due to trans-fat levels exceeding permissible limits. Another sample, “Shashwat Premium Cow Pure Ghee,” was found substandard due to the presence of beta-sitosterol.
At Shiv Kailash Ice Cream & Juice Parlour in City Light, a vanilla ice cream sample was classified as substandard, with milk fat content and BR (butyro-refractometer) reading below prescribed standards.
Similarly, at Cafe Desire on Udhna-Magdalla Road, a sample of malai pista ice cream was found substandard due to low milk fat content.
Authorities said further action will be initiated against the establishments concerned in accordance with the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and its rules and regulations. DeshGujarat
