139 crore Phase-1 Ghed area flood control works in full swing
April 30, 2026
Junagadh: The Gujarat government has launched a war-footing operation to ensure permanent drainage of rainwater accumulating in the Sorathi Ghed and Barda Ghed regions of Saurashtra during the monsoon, offering hope of major relief to farmers this year.
The move follows last year’s visit by the Chief Minister, after which the state granted in-principle approval of ₹1,538.18 crore to address the chronic waterlogging issue in the Ghed region. As part of the first phase, tenders worth ₹139.42 crore were approved for desilting, cleaning, and deepening of rivers, canals, and natural channels.
These works are now progressing rapidly on the ground. Junagadh District Collector Anilkumar Ranavasia said that of the ₹139 crore worth projects allocated to the district, one of the three major works has been completed, while the remaining two are advancing at a fast pace and are scheduled for completion before the onset of the monsoon.
In Mangrol taluka, one of the ongoing projects has reached around 80% completion and is targeted to be fully completed by May 30, 2026. Meanwhile, in Keshod taluka, desilting work in the Vatavgi and Dhundh canals began on April 25 following representations from local residents regarding silt removal.
Authorities have set a deadline of May 30, 2026, to complete all ongoing works ahead of the monsoon season, aiming to significantly mitigate flooding and waterlogging in the region. DeshGujarat
