Ahmedabad Civic Body Revamping 100 Key Junctions to Tackle Traffic Congestion

Ahmedabad: In a bid to ease congestion and improve traffic flow, the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has undertaken a project to develop 100 of the city’s most traffic-prone junctions.

As part of the initiative, traffic surveys are being conducted with the support of reputed educational institutions, and junction designs are being finalised after obtaining necessary clearances from the Traffic Police. So far, work on 37 junctions has been completed, while development is underway at 12 more. Survey and design work for the remaining locations is progressing.

As per AMC, the project aims to streamline traffic movement, reduce accidents, and enhance vehicular efficiency on key roads across the city.

In addition, AMC has implemented ‘left turn free’ systems at several busy intersections to reduce signal waiting time and ease congestion. The facility has been introduced at 76 junctions so far, the civic body said.

To further improve road safety, the civic body has carried out thermoplastic road markings—covering centre lines, curb lines, zebra crossings, edge lines, and stencil work, across a total area of 1.19 lakh sq m. Around 6,900 traffic signboards, including informative, cautionary, mandatory, and directional signs, have also been installed.

AMC said these measures are aimed at creating a more efficient, safer, and better-managed traffic system in the city. DeshGujarat
