College Teachers in Gujarat Seek Relief from Census Duties Amid Academic Workload

Ahmedabad: Faculty members from colleges have appealed to authorities to exempt teachers from duties related to Census 2027, stating that the additional responsibility would burden an already demanding academic schedule and disrupt key educational activities.

In a representation submitted to the census directorate, the teaching community said faculty members in colleges affiliated with government universities are currently occupied with examination-related work, including conducting exams, organising practicals, evaluating answer sheets and preparing mark sheets.

They emphasised that these responsibilities must be completed as per the academic calendar. Any diversion, they said, could impact the effective implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

The teachers cautioned that assigning census duties alongside these tasks may lead to delays and inefficiencies in both academic and administrative work. They have urged authorities to relieve college faculty from census-related assignments to ensure uninterrupted academic functioning. DeshGujarat
