ED Files PMLA Case Against Amit Majithia, Others in ₹2,500 Cr Betting Racket Case

Ahmedabad: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has filed a money laundering complaint under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002, before the Ahmedabad Rural Court against three accused, including alleged cricket betting mastermind Amit Majithia, BCC Music Company, and Dubai-based bookie Manish Rajendrakumar Sharma.

District Judge KG Sojitra has taken cognisance of the complaint and issued summons to the accused. The court has scheduled the next hearing for May 11.

According to the ED, an amount of ₹5.67 crore was detected across 92 bank accounts during the investigation. The probe revealed that proceeds generated from illegal cricket betting and gambling operations were routed into BCC Music Company.

The agency’s complaint states that the accused were involved in laundering money linked to an alleged ₹2,500 crore cricket betting racket busted in Madhupura. Earlier investigations by Gujarat Police’s CID Crime had also traced financial transactions worth ₹1,195 crore between June 2021 and January 2024 in connection with the case.

A total of seven individuals were initially booked in the case, including Majithia, a resident of Ahmedabad. Following the crackdown, Majithia reportedly fled Dubai and moved to Sri Lanka. A Red Corner Notice has also been issued against him.

The ED’s investigation found that associates of Majithia were involved in laundering the proceeds of crime, which were subsequently invested through various channels, including BCC Music Company.
