Electric City Bus service to launch soon in Gandhinagar with free travel for first 14 days
April 30, 2026
Gandhinagar: The electric bus service under the PM e-Bus Sewa scheme is set to be launched soon in the state capital, with authorities offering free travel for the first 14 days to encourage public adoption.
The decision was taken at the second board meeting of Gandhinagar Greenline Transport Service Limited, the municipal corporation-run entity overseeing the project. The board also approved fare structures and key operational policies for the service.
The e-bus network will cover not only areas under the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation but also nearby rural regions, aiming to improve connectivity for surrounding villages.
Officials said fares have been fixed based on distance, ranging from ₹5 to ₹30. In the initial phase, around 40 air-conditioned e-buses will be deployed across the city.
Special provisions have been introduced for passenger convenience. Children below five years of age will be allowed free travel, while each bus will have reserved seating for women and senior citizens. Buses will also be equipped with hydraulic platforms to facilitate boarding and deboarding for persons with disabilities.
To promote digital transactions, a prepaid smart card (promotional pass) system will be introduced. Passengers using smart cards will receive up to a 10% concession on fares.
Authorities said preparations are in full swing, and the service is expected to open to the public shortly. DeshGujarat
