Ahmedabad: Multiple SpiceJet flights on the Mumbai–Ahmedabad route were delayed by several hours, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded at Mumbai airport overnight. Frustrated by the prolonged delays, passengers raised slogans of “SpiceJet hai hai,” with videos of the protest going viral on social media.
The disruption has been reported since Wednesday, when the 4:35 pm flight (SG 880) to Ahmedabad was cancelled. Another flight (SG 691) on the same route, scheduled to depart at 9:55 pm, was delayed by nearly five hours and finally took off at 2:55 am on Thursday.
Further delays followed, with an early morning Thursday flight scheduled for 2:20 am departing at 5:17 am, more than three hours behind schedule.

The Ahmedabad-bound service was among several affected routes, as delays and cancellations also hit flights to Delhi, Bengaluru and Gorakhpur. Passengers reported long waiting hours, poor communication, and increasing frustration as departure timings kept changing.
One of the worst-hit services was a Mumbai–Bengaluru red-eye flight that departed nearly nine hours late, while another Bengaluru flight and a Mumbai–Delhi service were eventually cancelled after prolonged delays. A flight to Gorakhpur was also cancelled.
Passengers took to social media to express their anger, sharing visuals of overcrowded departure gates and alleging inadequate support from airline staff. Some travellers said they were forced to book alternate tickets at high costs following cancellations.
In a statement, SpiceJet attributed the disruptions to operational issues, including aircraft grounding and adverse weather at previous stations, which affected crew availability due to flight duty time limitations. The airline said additional flights were being arranged to accommodate affected passengers, while delays on the Ahmedabad route were linked to weather conditions at originating locations.
Recent data from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) indicates that SpiceJet has recorded one of the lowest on-time performance rates among Indian carriers, with frequent delays and cancellations impacting passengers in recent months. DeshGujarat
