Gathering on GIFT City bridge: RTO fines 27 vehicles for illegal parking

Gandhinagar: The Regional Transport Office (RTO) fined 27 vehicle owners for illegally parking their vehicles on the GIFT City bridge during a late-evening enforcement drive, carried out amid rising complaints of traffic obstruction and safety risks.

The drive, conducted on Wednesday evening, targeted vehicles parked along the bridge, including two-wheelers and four-wheelers. A total fine of ₹18,000 was imposed through no-parking challans, officials said.

Authorities noted that the bridge has been witnessing frequent gatherings at night, with vehicles parked along both sides, leading to congestion and increasing the risk of accidents.

Officials said the action was taken following multiple complaints about traffic disruption and unsafe conditions on the stretch.

During the checks, RTO teams also verified documents such as driving licences, insurance, and Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificates. Additional penalties may be imposed on violators found without valid documents.

The RTO said similar drives will continue, warning of strict action against those obstructing traffic or violating parking norms. DeshGujarat
