Borsad: In a significant political turnaround, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured a majority in the Borsad Nagarpalika, ending a period of political uncertainty following the recent local elections.

The initial results had resulted in a deadlock in the 36-seat municipality, with the BJP and Independent candidates winning 17 seats each. The remaining two seats were secured by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), respectively.

The stalemate was broken after Nilofar Bashirbhai Vora, the lone AIMIM councillor, announced her unconditional support to the BJP. Additionally, the BJP secured the backing of four Independent members, strengthening its position in the civic body.

The Independent councillors who extended support to the BJP include Shokatkhan Aftabkhan Pathan, Shukranabanu Imranbhai Qureshi, and Liyakatali Sabirali Saiyad. Another Independent member, Ahmed Abdulbhai Vohra, has also offered unconditional support to the party.

With the support of these five councillors, the BJP has crossed the majority mark and is now set to take control of the municipality. DeshGujarat
