Surat: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has busted another network involved in narcotics smuggling through trains at Surat Railway Station. Acting on a tip-off, a DRI team intercepted a woman from Nashik travelling on a Holiday Special train from Hazrat Nizamuddin to Dadar and seized more than 6 kg of narcotics worth over ₹6 crore in the international market.
The accused, identified as Meliora Chigozi Henry Uzor, was travelling in seat number 12 of coach B-7. Based on specific intelligence inputs, the DRI team conducted a search when the train arrived at Surat Railway Station.
During the operation, officials recovered a total of nine packets of suspected methamphetamine concealed in two bags. To avoid detection, seven packets were wrapped in black tape, while the remaining two were packed in plastic. In total, 6,321 grams of narcotics were seized from her possession.
The woman was arrested and later produced before a court, which granted the DRI two-day remand for further investigation.
Second seizure within a month
This marks the second such seizure in April. On April 14, the DRI had arrested a Nigerian woman, Emmanuela Gold Ikhanoba, with 2,017 grams of MDMA from the August Kranti Express. DeshGujarat
