TRB Wage Scam in Godhra: ASI, GRD Jawan Booked for ₹6.49 Lakh Fraud

Panchmahal: An internal inquiry by Panchmahal police has exposed an alleged scam in the Godhra traffic department, where a woman assistant sub-inspector and a Gram Rakshak Dal (GRD) jawan siphoned off ₹6.49 lakh by falsely showing their relatives as Traffic Brigade (TRB) volunteers.

The irregularities surfaced after it was found that several TRB personnel, who were not on duty between June 2024 and February 2025, were still marked present in official records. A probe into the matter has been underway since July.

During the investigation, Godhra A Division police examined duty registers, bank statements and other documents. It revealed that attendance was fabricated to generate wage bills, following which payments were transferred to bank accounts. Further scrutiny showed that wages meant for 19 TRB personnel were credited to just five accounts.

These accounts were linked to relatives of assistant sub-inspector Samrath Nayi and GRD jawan Vijay Damor, who was serving as a computer operator. Nayi was functioning as the accounts head in the traffic branch. The beneficiaries included Nayi’s brother Ramesh, his wife Bindu, their son Devkumar, her husband Raman, and Damor’s brother Vinod.

Police said a total of ₹6.49 lakh was deposited into these accounts. When questioned, the account holders claimed the funds were mistakenly credited and later returned to Nayi and Damor.

All accused, except Vinod Damor, have been arrested and remanded to two days’ police custody. Godhra A Division police have registered a case against Nayi, Damor and the five account holders under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita related to criminal breach of trust, forgery, falsification of accounts and other offences.
