Ahmedabad Airport Plans Dedicated Road to Ease VIP, GA Traffic
May 04, 2026
Ahmedabad: As a major infrastructure revamp is underway at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport for the construction of a new integrated terminal building (NITB), the airport operator is considering a dedicated road network to separate general aviation (GA) and VIP movement from regular commercial passenger traffic.
As per a TOI report, a new internal road has been proposed to connect the airport campus on the Meghaninagar side with Dafnala Circle, aimed at reducing congestion near the terminal.
Notably, for the shifting of the GA and GujSail terminals, a site near the existing GSEC cargo terminal is under consideration, and as per TOI, this shift will free up space for expanded terminal infrastructure. “Once finalized, a dedicated road corridor linking the relocated terminals to Dafnala is being considered,” said the TOI report.
At present, all passengers, whether travelling on commercial airlines, private charters, or state-operated aircraft, use common access routes via Dafnala to Airport Circle or through Ring Road and Hansol, often resulting in congestion during peak hours and VIP movement.
Officials indicated that the project is progressing as per schedule, with development activities aligned with planned timelines. External road infrastructure work is being handled by the concerned authorities.
However, a key challenge remains, as part of the proposed alignment is expected to pass through Army Cantonment land, necessitating defence clearances. Discussions are currently at a preliminary stage, and approvals from both government and defence authorities will be essential for the project’s execution. DeshGujarat
