Gandhinagar: A 24-year-old man drowned in the Sabarmati River near Sant Sarovar on Tuesday after venturing into deep water while celebrating his elder brother’s birthday with friends.
The deceased, identified as Dhaval Saxena (24), had come from Kalol along with his elder brother, Ujjwal Saxena, and three friends, Aryan, Neel, and Mitesh, for a day outing.
According to details, the group entered the river for a dip as the water appeared shallow from the surface. While Mitesh and Neel remained near the bank taking photographs, Dhaval, Ujjwal, and Aryan moved further into the river towards a raised patch. During this time, Dhaval reportedly slipped into a deep pit and began to drown.
Ujjwal attempted to rescue his younger brother but lost his footing in the process. He was pulled to safety by Aryan, while Dhaval submerged before help could reach him.
A team from the Gandhinagar Fire Brigade rushed to the spot after being alerted and launched a search operation. After several hours of effort, the body was recovered later in the evening. DeshGujarat
