ACB Gujarat Nabs Sub-Registrar, Three Others in ₹2.5 Lakh Bribery Case

Ahmedabad: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday caught four individuals, including a sub-registrar, red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹2.5 lakh at the Sub-Registrar Naroda-6 office in Asarwa.

The main accused has been identified as Akash Amrutbhai Desai, serving as Sub-Registrar at Naroda-6. Others arrested include Jay Baldevbhai Adivasi, a contractual stamp operator; Rahil Shaikh, a contractual search operator; and Narendra alias Sonu Ramkaran Bohra, a private individual. Of these, Desai, Adivasi, and Bohra were apprehended on the spot.

According to ACB officials, the complainant had approached the Sub-Registrar office for the registration of a residential property document. Initially, objections were raised by the sub-registrar. Subsequently, the complainant received a WhatsApp call from the stamp operator, who assured that the document process would be completed without requiring a Section 73(AA) certificate from the Collector’s office.

During further interaction, the complainant met the operators, who allegedly demanded money to “unlock” the token for document processing. An initial ₹35,000 was taken online through a QR code. Later, acting on behalf of the sub-registrar, the accused demanded an additional ₹2.5 lakh as a bribe to complete the documentation process.

Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the ACB, which laid a trap. During the operation, the accused coordinated among themselves and accepted the bribe amount of ₹2.5 lakh, following which they were caught red-handed. The entire bribe amount was recovered from the spot.

The ACB has registered a case of corruption and initiated further investigation into the matter. DeshGujarat
