Man Held for Milk Theft in Vastrapur After CCTV Footage Went Viral; Two More Cases Cracked

Ahmedabad: The city police have arrested a 39-year-old man for allegedly stealing milk crates from Vastrapur while also solving two other theft cases reported from different parts of the city. The accused, Mohamand Amin Sheikh, a resident of Vejalpur, was apprehended by the Vastrapur Police Station based on CCTV footage. Police said he used a stolen autorickshaw to target milk vendors in the early morning hours.

According to police, the accused would arrive at milk parlours around dawn, steal crates of milk, and flee. During the investigation, it was found that he had also stolen an autorickshaw from Sola and 90 water jugs from Sarkhej. All three cases have now been detected.

The case came to light after a complaint by Rameshbhai Patel, a resident of Chanakyapuri, who sells Amul milk near NFD Circle in Vastrapur. On April 28, 18 crates of milk were delivered at around 5 am, but when he checked later, only 15 crates remained, raising suspicion of theft. A similar theft involving another vendor was reported the following day.

CCTV footage showed a man arriving in a rickshaw and stealing milk crates, following which police identified and arrested the accused.

During interrogation, Sheikh confessed to selling the stolen milk at a low price to a local processing unit. Police also revealed that as many as 18 offences have been registered against him in the past. DeshGujarat
