May 06, 2026
Una: The Revenue Department of the Gujarat Government has officially declared specific zones within Una city in Gir Somnath district as “disturbed areas” under the Gujarat Prohibition of Transfer of Immovable Property and Provision for Protection of Tenants from Eviction from Premises in Disturbed Areas Act, 1991.
The declaration specifically covers Tulsidham Society (falling under Ward No. 1 and T.P. No. 4) and includes various survey and final plot numbers. The restriction also extends to areas within a 500-metre radius of these locations, covering several neighbourhoods and landmarks such as:
- PWD Quarter, Filter Plant, and Patel Colony
- Gulmahor Park, ISHDP Awas, and Nichalu Rahim Nagar
- Golden Jubilee Society, Maruti Nagar, and Golden Park
- Shamlaji Palace, Fire Station, and Idgah
- M.K. Park, Sahjanand Nagar-1 & 2, and Sajan Nagar
The notification, dated May 1, 2026, stated that the decision was taken as public order in these areas had been severely affected for a prolonged period due to riots and mob violence. The declaration will remain in effect for five years, from May 1, 2026, to April 30, 2031.
Under the provisions of the Act, all transfers of immovable property within the designated disturbed areas during this five-year period will be considered null and void unless prior sanction is obtained from the appropriate government authority.
In a separate notification, the state government delegated the powers originally vested with the Collector of Gir Somnath regarding such property transfers. With immediate effect, the Prant Officer and Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Una has been authorised to exercise powers under Sections 4, 5, and 5A of the Act, including processing sanctions for property transfers.
