Licence of Shivani Medicine Cancelled Over Illegal Sale of Psychotropic Drugs in Vadodara

Vadodara: The Food and Drug Regulatory Authority in Vadodara has taken strict action against the illegal sale of psychotropic drugs, permanently cancelling the licence of a medical store in the Navayard area after repeated violations were detected over the years.

Officials said the action was taken considering the serious and life-threatening side effects caused by the misuse of such medicines.

During inspections at M/s Shivani Medicine, authorities found serious irregularities. Investigations revealed that the store was allegedly selling codeine-based medicines and psychotropic drugs such as Nitrazepam and Alprazolam without valid prescriptions.

The first violation was detected in November 2019, following which the shop’s licence was suspended for 30 days. Further action was initiated in 2021 after officials found the illegal sale of medicines, including PB-REX Cough Syrup and BESCODEX, during inspections.

During the latest investigation in 2026, authorities recorded several serious violations, including the sale of codeine-based and psychotropic medicines without prescriptions, illegal trade in five types of medicines including PB-REX and BESCODEX, and failure to provide satisfactory replies to notices issued by the department.

Officials stated that misuse of such drugs can lead to addiction, respiratory complications, mental health disorders, and even fatal conditions.

Considering the repeated violations and the threat to public health, the authorities permanently cancelled the licence of the medical store. DeshGujarat
